29th November 2007 - Speaking at DOLAP 2007 and a little B.A.S.E.

Early this month I had the privilege of attending one of the most important scientific conferences about Business Intelligence, namely the ACM International Workshop on Data Warehousing and OLAP (DOLAP) conference which was held in Lisboan, Portugal this year. Other than attending, I had also been asked to give my opinion of the greatest research challenges ahead in the field of BI; and to many of you who have been following this blog, it is probably not a surprise that my suggestions were inspired by the research I did in my thesis about Computer Aided Leadership & Management (CALM).

A synopsis for my speech can be seen on acm.org and can be found in full-length here.

It was a great inspirational experience to be at DOLAP 2007 and I look forward to attending next year...

For some reason I have always been fascinated by prime numbers, so when a friend suggested to me that the only way to really celebrate my 37th birthday was to do the "A" in B.A.S.E. I was totally in for it.

We had perfect weather conditions and on our way up, I marveled several times at the city lights as darkness descended upon us. Once we were on the exit-point everything was quiet, and after a final equipment check by my highly skilled guide, I felt totally safe as I descended into the night from the 115 meters antenna. A few seconds, and a perfect on-heading opening from a great pack-job led me safely to the landing area –high on life, and ready for the champagne...

So to all this may concern, thanks so much for the gift of a lifetime! ;-)

The official homepage of Morten Middelfart and CALM. Computer Aided Leadership and Management (CALM) is an inspirational speculation on where mankind may be heading in the quest to leverage computer potentials for helping individuals and organizations to self-actualize their symbiotic potentials.

The time frame for this well-informed and provocative speculation on relatively near-term and more distant potentials is clearly within mankind's grasp. Dr. Middelfart argues persuasively that within the next one or two decades, symbiotic links with "intelligent machines" will surely leverage people's potentials, far beyond all human progress to date!

Altogether, a tour de force of well-informed contemporary insights and maturely reasoned speculation; affording possible stepping stones and a creative springboard for what may lie ahead. As has been said: "Man's reach should exceed his grasp; else what's a heaven for?”
