My Profile

My real name is Morten Middelfart, and I was born a Libra in 1970. Growing up in the country side in Denmark, I was fascinated by arcade games since childhood; not so much playing them as trying to make them. In 1984 I programmed the first game and sold it to a computer magazine for $100, but it was not the money –it was doing it that made the difference. At age 15 I was employed as programmer in a software company that did business applications, and the knowledge from computer games of getting the most out of the computer’s capacity in terms of performance and graphics wrapped in user friendliness that a child understands truly benefited me as CTO of TARGIT and beyond.

Being curious has lead me through a career from special intelligence with Special Forces to the rank of First-Lieutenant in the Danish army, and from a shipping career with the world’s largest shipping company Maersk to founding my own software company specialized in business intelligence and business analytics. After my company was acquired by TARGIT, I entered the executive lounge and have been challenged with various disciplines such as business transformation, divestment and acquisition in parallel with managing R&D and claiming patents. I got my first patent in 2000 and finalized an MBA at Henley Management College, UK in 2001.

I chose the Ph.D. program at Rushmore because I would like to research further into the ways people make decisions, both in terms of the intelligence and the intuition behind it. I would like to research today's traditional discipline of “Business Intelligence” and try to extend it into the future; additionally I will research into the non-metaphysical parameters that are used by decision makers throughout the world.

Having completed the Ph.D. from Rushmore University, which at the time was the greatest educational experience I have had, I was truly motivated to do even more research. As a consequence I choose to try another Ph.D., this time in Computer Science at Aalborg University in Denmark. This is now an ongoing project until 2010...

The official homepage of Morten Middelfart and CALM. Computer Aided Leadership and Management (CALM) is an inspirational speculation on where mankind may be heading in the quest to leverage computer potentials for helping individuals and organizations to self-actualize their symbiotic potentials.

The time frame for this well-informed and provocative speculation on relatively near-term and more distant potentials is clearly within mankind's grasp. Dr. Middelfart argues persuasively that within the next one or two decades, symbiotic links with "intelligent machines" will surely leverage people's potentials, far beyond all human progress to date!

Altogether, a tour de force of well-informed contemporary insights and maturely reasoned speculation; affording possible stepping stones and a creative springboard for what may lie ahead. As has been said: "Man's reach should exceed his grasp; else what's a heaven for?”
